Heaney, Seamus (Justin)
(n. 13 abr. 1939, cerca de Castle Dawson, condado de Londonderry, Irlanda del Norte).

Poeta irlandés. Después de estudiar en la Queen's University en Belfast, fue profesor y conferencista. Horrorizado por la violencia en su Irlanda del Norte natal, se trasladó a la República de Irlanda en 1972. En los últimos años ha enseñado en Harvard, Oxford y Cambridge. Sus obras, inspiradas en la vida lárica del norte de Irlanda, evocan acontecimientos históricos y se inspiran en la mitología celta, pero también son un reflejo de las últimas décadas turbulentas de su país. Entre sus libros de poesía destacan Muerte de un naturalista (1966), Door into the Dark [Puerta a la oscuridad] (1969), Norte (1975), Isola stazione (1984), La linterna del espino (1987), Seeing Things [Espejismos] (1991) y The Spirit Level [El nivel de burbuja] (1996). De la emoción a las palabras (1996) es un volumen que recopila algunos de sus más brillantes ensayos acerca de la poesía y los poetas. También realizó una sobresaliente traducción del Beowulf. En 1995 recibió el Premio Nobel de Literatura.
